Mrs. Lawson's Classroom News
It was a short week, but full of learning and excitement. I hope everyone enjoyed their 4 day weekend. We moved some students around in class to new seats. I hope the enjoy getting to know and work with someone new. We also changed our schedule a little to better meet the needs of all the students in the school. We will only be having one special per day. That special will be from 12:40-1:40 each day. We will rotate to Art, PE, Music, Library, and Computers. I will let you know in my newsletter our PE day. We will also be going to the Successmaker Lab twice a week. I love successmaker. It is designed specifically at the level your child is working.
We started our Thanksgiving Unit this week with a cute story called "Turkey Trouble". We did several literacy activities tied to the story. We made Long-legged turkeys and copied a poem. We worked on our sight words in reading groups. Next week we will be looking closer at the Mayflower, Pilgrims, Indians, Turkey, and the facts behind Thanksgiving. We plan to make a book to tie them all together and watch some great videos to help us learn.
Important Dates:
Nov. 12-16 Pennies for Patients. We sent home the box to collect coins to return to school on the 16th
Wednesday 14th Return Tom the Turkey in Disguise
November 20th Thanksgiving Feast @ 1:30 in the gym. We will be singing a couple of songs and then the pilgrims and indians will feast together.
November 21, 22, 23 NO SHOOL! Enjoy Thanksgiving.
Reminders:
Put names in coats. Send a jacket or coat each day

The students were great coming back off the Fall Break. They got right back in the swing of our routine. We enjoyed talking about everyone’s break and seeing the pictures they drew about their favorite thing they did on the break. Thank you for coming to the Literacy Night. If you were unable to attend I will go over the information with you at the Parent Teacher Conference. Thanks everyone for signing up for the conference. Fall Fun Night was a blast. Everyone had a great time carving pumpkins and eating with friends.
We started our 2 week unit on the Fall Season. We learned about the letter “S” and in Math we will be writing a number and deciding what is one more and one less than that number. What an exciting week. We made 2 trips to the fire station, planted tulips for Red Ribbon Week, watched the 3rd grade practice their performance, and voted for the next president.
We worked on ordinal numbers by sequencing characters from “Where’s My Mummy”. We made a mummy and wrote about being scared. We read “Where the Wild Things Are” and created Max to go with our writing piece. We worked on letter Cc. In math we made number combinations and practiced counting by 10s to 100. Next week is a short week, but packed with learning. We will be learning about the letter Ii. In math we will be working with 10 frames. Our focus story will be “Turkey Trouble”.
