This week we got to experience some true winter COLD. We were sad to have to stay in for recess. It has to be above freezing to go outside. Flu season is upon us, and we are trying our best to prevent illness in our room. We are being vigilant about washing hands and covering our coughs. We are sanitizing our desks each day and are going through the sanitizing wipes.
We are reminding them to wash their hands as much as possible to eliminate spreading of germs
If you could send in a container to help keep our class healthy, it would be appreciated!!!
Reminders
**Send a winter coat each day. We will go outside if above freezing.

Mrs. Lawson's Class News
This week was really fast. The students continue to review the guidelines and rules. They were very hard workers this week. We had fun incorporating math and reading with our snowman and mitten themes. I hope they told you the mitten story as they showed you the animals that climbed inside. We did a lot of addition activities this week.
Next week we will concentrate on polar animals (penguin and polar bear). We will be looking at nonfiction text to research about these animals. We will be working in math with tally marks and tens frames. We will also be doing addition and subtraction. I reading we will continue to sound out CVC words and rhyming. In writing we will use our 4 square to produce another writing piece.
Report cards went home today. If you would like to meet, please fill out the attached sheet and I will contact you to make an appointment.
We will be MAP testing on Tuesday and Friday mornings next week. Make sure your child gets rest and eats a good breakfast so he/she can do their best on the test.
***Reading Folders and Books will come home on Monday. I have changed the direction sheets. Please review your new homework requirements. I have added a Sight Word Booklet to some folders and others have a set of cards in the tile pocket to review. These new plans are very specific to your child’s reading needs. I am hoping to challenge the students as we move into the next semester.
**Please remember to dress your child appropriately in the upcoming cool months. Put their initials in all coat labels. Also please send a winter change of clothes to keep at school in case of an accident.
**Remember to send in snacks for January. Thank you for the glue sticks!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! We have had a great start to the second half of the year. The students were really excited to share about their Christmas break. I enjoyed hearing about their favorite gifts. I hope each of your families had a great time together. This week we reviewed the rules and expectations each day. We are working on seeing who can get the most “pawsitive” tallies for making smart choices and following guidelines and rules. We each made a resolution for the 2013 year. We worked on addition, counting to 100 by 10’s, blends, and vowel sounds. We made some winter decorations for our classroom. Our theme for the following three weeks will be “Winter”. We will incorporate math and literature with winter, snowman, mittens, and Artic animals. We should have lots of fun with our learning. Friday the 11th we will meet our new student teacher. We are excited to have another set of hands and eyes to assist the students to meet their academic goals.
